MADC Attends IEDC's Economic Future Forum in Tulsa,OK

From June 12-14, MADC staff attended the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Economic Future Forum in Tulsa, OK. This forum was extremely valuable to MADC, who gained numerous takeaways from this event.

Highlights from the Forum include:
  • Tour of the Tulsa Port of Catoosa- The Tulsa Port of IEDCTulsa.jpgCatoosa is an inland seaport that houses 70 different businesses and employs more than 3,500 people. The 2,500-acre industrial park was an inspiring, successful example of the potential for Minot's Port (long-term). The tour shared insights on operation recommendations and other beneficial information for MADC to utilize
  • Session regarding Intermodal Transport: Laying the Path for Economic Development Opportunities. Keynote speakers featured:
    -Vann Cunningham, Assistant Vice President, BNSF
    -Reid Dulberger, President and CEO, Economic Development Growth Engine for Memphis and Shelby County
    -Colby Tanner, AVP of Economic Development, BNSF
    -Curtis Spencer, President, IMS Worldwide Inc.
    -Melissa Zeigler, Principle and Lead Practioner, CDM Smith
  • MADC made a strategic contact and networked with them over lunch. MADC has already followed up with this contact and additional contacts made during this trip
  • Steps that other communities follow to create a successful Workforce Development Plan
  • Future trends for the medical industry

In addition to MADC's key takeaways, the Forum also covered updated information on data standards, trends in selected industries, and featured the world's largest retailer Walmart to discuss their initiative "Made in America."
